Ensure your team have the resources necessary to do their job

There's an old saying in project development that, goes something like "Fast, good or cheap. Pick two." Known as the Project Management Triangle or Iron Triangle.

Ensure your team have the resources necessary to do their job.

Don’t waste time, money and effort on a bad design due to bad data.

Successfully present an accurate existing conditions plan to your design team while having confidence in your ground surface data.

Avoid risk in internet sourced LiDAR data

The availability of internet sourced LiDAR data seems to be a way to acquire high quality existing conditions data for a project, but many firms have found that using this data comes with a number of foreseeable but hard to quantify complications that can result in significant liability exposure.

It is critical to make a thorough analysis of the original specifications for the dataset of interest, including the equipment used, its performance at the altitude used to acquire the data, the datum’s used to locate the data, classification schemes and even how stringent the control requirements used to adjust and place the data on the published datum’s was acquired.

Few of those point clouds contain the hard information you need to analyze the dataset, but with some technical insight you can do enough homework to gain a level of comfort with data.

The purpose of this article is to provide you with some guidance in evaluating the validity and usefulness of that wonderful free LiDAR data you found on the internet.  Download this white paper below.

National Building Safety Month

A Presidential proclamation has declared the month of May National Building Safety Month. During National Building Safety Month, we celebrate all the dedicated professionals who keep our buildings secure, protect our environment and maintain disaster resistant, energy-efficient infrastructure.

Using remote sensing technologies such as Imagery, LiDAR & other geospatial datasets, AXIS is measuring buildings in a single pulse.  Creating point cloud datasets with a wealth of spatial features useful in decision making, AXIS can provide building outlines for example.  These datasets can assist with 3D building reconstruction; analyzing rooftops of appropriate size for solar panel installation and more.

Aerial LiDAR surveys allow for large areas to be covered quickly, resulting in time and cost savings over traditional methods. LiDAR data is easily processed to extract features, create orthoimagery and digital elevation models, to better assess the true risks for your planning & design projects.

Facility Managers can use 3D building models to see the big picture in order to begin construction remodeling, capital improvements, meet legislative mandates and regulations.  From storm water runoff to building accessibility spatial feature datasets can assist in your facility management efforts.
